The 4th Grade Market Day at Toronto Elementary School was a tremendous success, showcasing the creativity, hard work, and compassion of our students. As part of this exciting, hands-on learning experience, students developed their own small businesses and sold a variety of items to classmates, families, and staff. More than just a fun event, Market Day taught students valuable lessons in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, communication, and decision-making. By pricing their products, managing sales, and interacting with customers, students gained real-world experience in running a business and working collaboratively. These skills help build confidence and foster a spirit of innovation and leadership at an early age. What made the day even more meaningful was the students’ decision to donate their earnings to a cause close to their hearts, the Jefferson County Humane Society and Animal Shelter. Their incredible efforts raised an impressive $2,214 to support the care and adoption of local animals in need. To celebrate, representatives from the Humane Society visited T.E.S. to accept the donation and brought along some adorable puppies to meet the students! The joy on the children’s faces was a powerful reminder of the impact kindness and community spirit can have. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the families, staff, and community members who supported our first annual Market Day. Your encouragement helped make this event a memorable success. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Second and third grade members of the T.E.S. Garden Club recently rolled up their sleeves and got to work beautifying the school's outdoor classroom and garden space. With rakes, gloves, and plenty of enthusiasm, these young gardeners worked together to clean up the area in preparation for planting new seeds in the coming weeks. The Garden Club offers students more than just time outdoors—it provides hands-on learning experiences that cultivate responsibility, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. As students dig, plant, and care for the garden, they gain a deeper understanding of science concepts like plant life cycles, ecosystems, and sustainability. Beyond academics, the Garden Club encourages collaboration and problem-solving, helping students develop social-emotional skills as they work toward a common goal. The pride they take in nurturing their space and watching it grow also helps foster a stronger connection to their school and community. We’re proud of the fantastic teamwork shown by these young leaders!
