Please join us in welcoming Mr. Jonathan Jurado, our new Spanish teacher, to the Toronto City Schools family!
Originally from Mexico City, Mr. Jurado brings an incredibly diverse background to Toronto. He holds a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering with a minor in Earth Science and spent 16 years working in the oil and gas industry as a field engineer and providing training in quality, health, safety, and environmental protection.
Education has also been a major part of his journey. Mr. Jurado spent more than 15 years teaching in Mexico, where his subjects included math, physics, chemistry, statistics, and theater. An ACTFL-certified Spanish educator, he has spent the past two years teaching Spanish in Ohio and now joins Toronto teaching Spanish I, Spanish II, CCP Spanish I, and CCP Spanish II.
Mr. Jurado hopes to build upon the strong Spanish program established by Mrs. Cuervo while sharing much more than language with his students. He looks forward to incorporating culture, life lessons, and experiences that can make a positive difference in their lives.
Outside of the classroom, staying busy isn't a problem! Mr. Jurado has been involved in theater for 37 years, enjoys collecting and restoring comic book toys and collectibles, co-hosts a podcast with friends, teaches line dancing, cooks, writes short stories, poetry, and plays, and is currently writing a theater production for Dennison, Ohio.
And there is even more to his story! In 1999, Mr. Jurado was ranked #3 worldwide by the National Blackbelt League, has trained in four martial arts, speaks four languages, has appeared in more than 60 shows, and even served as an official Gru impersonator from Despicable Me for radio commercials and theater appearances!
If he could instantly master one skill, Mr. Jurado would choose to become a universal translator and speak every language in the world, something especially fitting for Toronto's newest Spanish teacher!
His philosophy is simple: “Treat people the way you want to be treated.”
Welcome to Toronto City Schools, Mr. Jurado! ❤️💙 #RKN #ProudRedKnight

School Board Approves 2026-2027 District Calendar
The Board of Education has officially approved the 2026-2027 district calendar for next school year. The calendar reflects a continued focus on student learning, balance instructional time, and flexible opportunities to meet student needs. The 2026-2027 school year will kick off with the annual Back to School Bash on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on the school campus. This event gives families the chance to reconnect, meet staff, and start the school year on a positive note. The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 will be Wednesday, August 19., 2026 . A key feature of the approved calendar is the inclusion of a Maymester from May 10th through May 26. Rather than ending the academic year abruptly, the Maymester will create dedicated time for enrichment, acceleration, and targeted intervention. The period will allow the district to respond to student needs in a more intentional and flexible way. The Maymester is currently in development but it may include credit recovery, course completion support, targeted math and literacy intervention, service-based learning, ACT/SAT preparation, project-based learning experiences, STEM enrichment, community-based projects, and arts-based intensives such as music or visual arts.

Our district is committed to supporting students and families both inside and outside the classroom. To make it easier for parents to find help when they need it, we have added a direct link on our website to the Jefferson County Resource Network. Visit the Parent & Students page to find the link on our website.
The Jefferson County Resource Network is a centralized, easy-to-use website designed to help residents quickly locate local service providers across Jefferson County, Ohio. The goal is to make sure families have access to accurate, up-to-date information when they are looking for assistance. The site brings together a wide range of community service providers and organizes them into clear categories so users can find help without frustration.
By placing a direct link to the Jefferson County Resource Network on the Parents & Students page of our website, we are removing barriers and giving families a single, reliable starting point when they need assistance. Parents no longer have to search multiple websites or rely on outdated information because help is organized, current, and accessible in one place.. We encourage families to explore this resource and use it whenever the need arises. Access to support matters, and this is one more way we are working to connect our school community with the services available right here in Jefferson County.

This morning, students and staff gathered at the flagpole in front of Toronto Jr/Sr High School to participate in “See You at the Pole”, a global day of student prayer.
Organized by leaders Mrs. Mosti and Mr. Durand, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), is a powerful event brought together hearts and voices in unity to pray for our school, community, nation, and world. 🌍❤️
It was an incredible morning of faith, fellowship, and hope as students took the lead in lifting up their peers, teachers, and leaders in prayer. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and participate in this meaningful tradition!

We’re excited to welcome Racheal Kline to our math department this year! A graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Mrs. Kline holds a BS in Education with concentrations in Grades 4–9 Math and Science, and K–12 Reading. Mrs. Kline comes to us from Wellsville Local Schools, where she taught Junior High Math and Algebra. When asked what inspired her to become a teacher, she shared that as a student, she experienced both success and struggles in the classroom, and teachers often made the difference. The connections she had with them inspired her to pursue teaching. This year, she’s most excited about getting to know her students and helping them grow both academically and personally into successful young men and women. Her favorite classroom motto is “Math is not a spectator sport. The only way to learn math is to do math.” When she’s not teaching, you might find her spending time with her husband and their five sons (two of whom are the same age as her students!). We’re so glad to have Mrs. Kline on our team this year—welcome aboard!

Say hello to Jesse Bolek, our new STEM and 6th Grade Social Studies teacher! Jesse studied Math and Social Studies Education at the University of Akron. His goal as an educator is simple but powerful. He wants to inspire students and encourage them to follow their dreams. One of his favorite sayings captures that perfectly: “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.” Jesse’s background in football taught him the value of teamwork, something he plans to bring into his teaching every day. Outside of school, students might be surprised to learn he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan (yes, right here in Steelers country!). Welcome to the team, Jesse!
