Our Elementary STEM students took on the role of aerospace engineers this week! After learning about the Mars rover, our 3rd–5th graders designed and built re-entry capsules to safely bring their marshmallow astronauts back to Earth putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test.

Meanwhile, our K–2 students explored gravity with a fun experiment and then engineered parachutes to help their “alien” land safely. To top it off, they even designed a home on the back for their new space traveler!

Mrs.Hammond’s third grade math students have been busy growing both plants and their math skills this month! Students planted and cared for their own little “yards,” taking responsibility for watering and nurturing them every day. Each week, they measured their progress and tracked their results using line plots and bar graphs, turning their hard work into real-life math data.

Engineering in Action in elementary STEM class!

Our students have been busy thinking like engineers this week! Engineers solve problems, design solutions, and build things that make our world work.

Students in 3rd–5th grade put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building working marble runs using paper towel rolls, tape, and construction paper. They had to plan, test, and improve their designs to make sure their marble could travel all the way through their run!

Our K–2 students explored what makes bridges strong. They watched two exciting bridge experiments, observed what happened, and discussed why some bridges are stronger than others. Then they designed their own bridges that could hold a very heavy train!

It was a great week of designing, experimenting, and thinking like real engineers!

Our elementary students became medical pioneers this week during STEM class!

Grades 3-5 tackled the "Broken Bone Challenge," engineering custom splints to repair and strengthen "fractured" craft sticks. Some students took it a step further and made a working "knee".

Grades K-2 became Germ Detectives, using glitter to track how easily "germs" spread and why hand-washing is so important! Students also drew a picture of themselves as doctors.

All Grades got to see a working lung model in action! Using a plastic cup and balloon demo, students observed exactly how our lungs inflate and deflate to help us breathe.

So proud of our curious thinkers and future doctors!

First grade students used their detective skills today. Each student hid an object in an egg and wrote clues for their classmates to identify the object. It was a fun way to use our imagination.

Reading Gifted students in the 2nd grade completed a book study over 6 weeks. Followed by completing a choice board at home. These two students chose to do a new book cover and draw their favorite part of the book onto a shirt. They gave a presentation to the class to try and get them to want to read the book! Way to go students!
