Our young artists in kindergarten -2nd grade explored symmetry by using paint to create beautiful butterflies in art this week! Students painted one side of their paper, folded it, and opened it to reveal colorful wings that matched on both sides.

This fun process helped artists discover how shapes and colors can mirror each other while creating bright, one of a kind butterflies. The room was full of excitement as each student opened their paper to see their symmetrical surprise!

Our elementary STEM students put their creativity and engineering skills to the test by designing trolleys to carry a sneaky “leprechaun” down a zip line! Using simple materials, students planned, built, tested, and improved their designs to make sure their leprechaun could travel safely from start to finish.

This challenge encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and lots of trial and error, just like real engineers! Some trolleys zoomed down the line, while others needed a few redesigns along the way. In the end, every student discovered that a little creativity (and maybe a bit of leprechaun luck) goes a long way in STEM!

Our STEM students put their engineering skills to the test as they designed and built snowflake launchers using rubber bands, paper cups, clothespins, binder clips, tape, scissors, and craft sticks! Their goal: create a launcher that would send their snowflake the farthest.

Through teamwork, problem-solving, and lots of trial and error, students explored force, motion, and design while thinking like true engineers. The room was full of excitement as launchers were tested and distances were measured and every group had something to celebrate!

Love was in the air in Miss Huddlestun’s Art Room last week!

Our 3rd–5th grade artists put their creativity and construction skills to work by designing beautiful heart wreaths! Using strips of cardstock and mini staplers, they explored repetition, shape, and form while strengthening their fine motor skills. The results were eye-catching and full of personality!

Our K–2 students were inspired by the story Love Monster and created their very own lovable creatures! With bright colors, fun textures, and lots of imagination, they practiced cutting, gluing, and visual storytelling to bring their monsters to life.

We love seeing creativity, confidence, and joyful learning growing in the art room each day!

A look back at the colorful creativity in Miss Huddlestun’s Art Room from two weeks ago!

Our 3rd–5th grade artists became texture explorers as they created stunning watercolor paintings using salt and glue techniques. They watched their colors blend, spread, and sparkle, making every artwork completely one-of-a-kind just like true designers!

Our K–2 students shared the love after a special Valentine’s Day story by creating their “You Warm My Heart” crafts. They practiced cutting, gluing, and arranging shapes while discovering warm colors and creative expression. The room was filled with kindness, creativity, and lots of happy hearts!

A few weeks ago our 3rd and 4th grade STEM students had a cool time putting their learning into action by making ice cream in a bag! Using teamwork, careful measuring, and a little bit of shaking, students explored how science can turn simple ingredients into a delicious treat.

Smiles, laughter, and hands-on learning made this experiment extra sweet and the best part was enjoying the tasty results they created themselves!

Dear Community Members,
I want to make you aware of a serious incident that took place today involving one of our school buses. An adult entered the bus while students were on board and confronted the driver in a loud and aggressive manner. Thankfully, no students were physically harmed. However, the situation created an unsafe environment and caused unnecessary disruption.

In the State of Ohio, it is against the law for an unauthorized person to board a school bus. The Ohio Revised Code prohibits interfering with the operation of a school bus or distracting a driver while students are being transported. A bus driver’s attention must remain on the road at all times. Any confrontation or distraction can put children in danger.

Let me be clear: entering a school bus without permission is illegal and will not be tolerated. We are addressing this matter in coordination with local law enforcement.

We understand that concerns may arise from time to time regarding transportation. If you have a question or issue, we encourage you to contact the Transportation Office directly. You may also reach out to your child’s building principal. We are committed to listening and responding appropriately.

Approaching or boarding a bus is not the correct way to resolve a concern. Our bus drivers work hard each day to safely transport students. They deserve a safe work environment and the support of the community.

Thank you for your cooperation and your continued partnership in keeping our students safe.

Sincerely,

Maureen Taggart

We are incredibly proud to celebrate 24 of our seniors who are officially on track to graduate with their Associate in Arts degree from Belmont Community College—all before receiving their high school diplomas! Even more impressive, five of these 24 students will also be earning a second associate degree in science, demonstrating outstanding dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Patrick Carbon from Belmont College for taking the time to speak with our students today regarding their intent to graduate. His guidance and support help ensure our seniors understand the next steps in completing their degrees and feel confident as they move toward this incredible milestone.

This accomplishment reflects countless hours of hard work from our students, the unwavering support of their families, and the strong partnership between our school and Belmont College. Please join us in congratulating these amazing seniors on this outstanding achievement. The future is bright! 💜

Parents and guardians: Please talk with your children now about staying off the ice. Do not allow them to play, walk, or skate on the river. If you see anyone on the ice: keep a safe distance, call 911 immediately, and do not attempt a rescue yourself. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe. Tomorrow is the last day to purchase Valentines suckers. They are a dollar each and benefit the Tabitha Merideth Scholarship.

The Toronto City School District will be closed today, Friday, February 6. This decision was made due to anticipated hazardous travel conditions. The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur during our peak travel times making safe transportation difficult. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
